I enjoy looking at book lists, and CT has a new list this month. I've only read 16 of the 50. How about you?

Joyce have you read "Through Gates of Splendor"? Heard a sermon on the story a while back and wonder if it's a good book.

I've been sitting here trying to remember if I really did read this book or not. The longer I sit here the more stuff I am remembering of the story, so I'm guessing that I did read it. I know it's been a long time ago, probably when I was a teenager, so I don't have a real firm memory of whether it was a good book or not. I think it's a decent example of how not to do missionary work. And a good example of how God can redeem our screwed up attempts at serving Him. Sorry I can't recall more than that.

I counted 18, with enough question marks that it might have been only 16, and it may stay at that, because I've read quite a few good Christian books which are not on the list, and I am enjoying reading just the Bible more and more.
I was acquainted with the story of the 5 missionaries killed in Ecuador as soon as it happened, and have read most of Elizabeth Elliot's books as well as Jim Elliot's diary. The latest addition to the story of that "failed" mission is a book and movie entitled "The End of the Spear" by the son of one of the five men. I think you will like to follow the whole story.
